BREAKING NEWS!
CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED
Legal certification process is launched in
Victoria B.C. by servicemen who took part in
Exercise Vacuum in Suffield Alberta in 1968.
Five ex-Forces members filed a class-action suit
yesterday at the Victoria courthouse with the
Supreme Court of British Columbia against the
Federal Government, naming as defendants the
Attorney General of Canada and the Minister of
National Defence.
No
statement of defence has been filed yet. Hugh
Johnson, spokesman for the Department of
National Defence, said in a telephone interview
he couldn't comment specifically on any lawsuit
now before the courts. However, Johnson said the Defence Department has in
other cases recognized the injuries caused
to servicemen in chemical warfare exercises and
moved to offer assistance.

Congratulations to the two soldiers in Victoria BC who participated on Exercise Vacuum in 1968 at
Suffield Alberta and who received pensions based on their illness caused by
toxic chemical exposures. The Government of Canada and Veterans Affairs have
finally recognized the plight of those participants who still suffer the
after affects and are awarding them their long overdue compensation. More
than 600 men took part in these chemical experiments/trials. Let's hope this
is just the beginning!

In
1968, Exercise Vacuum took place in Suffield
Alberta. It was one of the largest Nuclear,
Biological, Chemical Warfare exercises in
Canadian history. Soldiers from The Queen's Own
Rifles of Canada stationed in Victoria B.C. were
used as guinea pigs during those experiments,
along with other Canadian and American soldiers.
39 years later, these men continue to suffer
with their disabilities and are routinely
dismissed as if they hadn't participated in
those hideous experiments at all. This treatment
continues today, well after the THE YEAR OF THE
VETERAN! |

"One
of the reasons that exposure to mustard gas
must be prevented rather than cured, is that
detoxification is quite difficult due to its
insolubility and that the effects of mustard
gas are devastating -
essentially if the inhalation of the mustard
gas itself does not kill you, it is very
likely to cause cancer later in life."
